Hello Adopt a Family Angels!
We are so grateful to you for your loving support for our program’s families. It is because of your generosity that they will experience a truly magical Christmas. They will know that a “perfect stranger” has opened their hearts to them and for absolutely nothing in return- THANK YOU!
As you know, with the reformation of the Adopt a Family program due to the pandemic, we will not be having our normal big Deliver Day. But we know that it will be back next year and we can’t wait. In the meantime, we are so happy to invite you to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels 555 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles 90012, for their first annual Posada on December 18th at 5:30 PM. This is a free event filled with candlelight procession, prayer service, music and Christmas carols, refreshments and candy, and a photo booth. Parking will be free. All attendees are asked to donate an unwrapped toy or grocery gift card in any increment. The proceeds from this event will benefit the Adopt a Family program.
This event is in conjunction with the “FORWARD IN MISSION” Jubilee Year that the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is celebrating to mark the 250th anniversary of the first founding Mission San Gabriel Arcangel, the first church for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The Jubilee Year will be from September 11, 2021, and will continue until September 10, 2022. You may find more information regarding this at www.forwardinmission.com. For those of you who are unfamiliar with what a “posada” entails. Let me explain.
“Las Posadas is an Advent tradition from Mexico that occurs on each of the nine days before Christmas. Each night of the novena, families form a procession symbolizing the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem in search of shelter, or posada. They come to closed door after closed door until they finally find an open door offering posada. The ‘Forward in Mission’ Jubilee Year is a special time to open wide the doors of our hearts to Jesus.”
Please share with your friends, family, and coworkers. We would love to see you all there and are hopeful that we can join as a community for an “evening of prayer and fun in preparation for Christmas.”
